K-Theory Torsion

چکیده

The Chern isomorphism determines the free part of the K-groups from ordinary cohomology. Thus to really understand the implications of K-theory for physics one must look at manifolds with K-torsion. Unfortunately there are not many explicit examples, and usually for very symmetric spaces. Cartesian products of RPn are examples where the order of the torsion part differs between K-theory and ordinary cohomology. The dimension of corresponding branes is also discussed. An example for a Calabi-Yau manifold with K-torsion is given. ∗[email protected]

Ranks of modules relative to a torsion theory

Relative to a hereditary torsion theory $tau$ we introduce a dimension for a module $M$, called {em $tau$-rank of} $M$, which coincides with the reduced rank of $M$ whenever $tau$ is the Goldie torsion theory. It is shown that the $tau$-rank of $M$ is measured by the length of certain decompositions of the $tau$-injective hull of $M$. Moreover, some relations between the $tau$-rank of $M$ and c...

Finite and Torsion Kk-theories

We develop a finite KK-theory of C∗-algebras following ArlettazH.Inassaridze’s approach to finite algebraic K-theory [1] . The BrowderKaroubi-Lambre’s theorem on the orders of the elements for finite algebraic K-theory [ , ] is extended to finite KK-theory. A new bivariant theory, called torsion KK-theory is defined as the direct limit of finite KK-theories. Such bivariant K-theory has almost a...

Nonlocal elasticity theory for static torsion of the bi-directional functionally graded microtube under magnetic field

The microtubes are important structures in nano electromechanical system .in this study a nonlocal model is presented to investigate the static torsion behavior of microtubes made of bi-directional factionally graded material (BDFGM) subjected to a longitudinal magnetic field. Mechanical properties of BDFGM microtube varies in the radial and longitudinal direction according to an arbitrary func...

Strongly Torsion Generated Groups from K-theory of Real C∗-algebras

We pursue the program initiated in [7], which consists of an attempt by means of K-theory to construct a strongly torsion generated group with prescribed center and integral homology in dimensions two and higher. Using algebraic and topological K-theory for real C∗-algebras, we realize such a construction up to homological dimension five. We also explore the limits of the K-theoretic approach.

K-theory for Ring C*-algebras Attached to Function Fields with Only One Infinite Place

We study the K-theory of ring C*-algebras associated to rings of integers in global function fields with only one single infinite place. First, we compute the torsion-free part of the K-groups of these ring C*-algebras. Secondly, we show that, under a certain primeness condition, the torsion part of K-theory determines the inertia degrees at infinity of our function fields.
